Win a spot on the March Up & Running 5k or 10k course

Last night I was formatting a foxy spreadsheet and trying to calculate how many bottles of wine and how many pizza slices per person would be best for the upcoming Up & Running retreat in Bologna. It struck me, how awesome it was that I get to do wine and pizza maths?

It’s now been two whole years since Up & Running began and I can’t imagine my life without all the brave, hilarious, kind and inspiring women I’ve met in our wee community. Every time I get stuck in that spiral of I can’t write for shit / who am I to be a business lady / I’m so unfit and wobbly / blah blah whiny blah, all I have to do I think of all the ladies who took a chance on themselves. So many said at the start, Who am I to be a runner?  but they were brave enough to just put on their shoes and go out for a trot.

Who are we do these things? Well… why not us? One small chunk of time, repeated over and over, has led to so many empowering moments. And friendships. And Nutella pizza.

Our next 5K Course starts on Monday 4 March and the 10K Course starts on Thursday 7 March, and each run for eight weeks.

So… fancy joining us? As well as eight weeks of training plans you get inspiring and motivating daily blog posts, unlimited support from the Coach, access to our private community forum plus EXTREME SMUGNESS when you cross the finish line at your first 5K or 10K come May.

I’m giving away five free places,  with the winner choosing the course they’d like to do. All you have to do is leave a comment on this blog post and tell me, If you could have a secret superpower, what would it be?

  • Entries close 11PM GMT this Saturday 21 February
  • There will be five winners and they have their choice of 5K or 10K course
  • The winner can gift the prize to a friend, so you can enter if you choose not to run but want to surprise a friend.
  • Winners will be randomly selected.
  • Winners can be from anywhere in the world. Remember the Courses are for women only.
  • Winner will be announced on Sunday. Woohoo!

  1. a secret super power, um…. I think shap shifter. Alway wondered what it would be like to be TALL!

  2. I’d like to be able to clean my entire house with the snap of my fingers, leaving me plenty of time to get up and running!

  3. This is an ongoing discussion among my friends – but we limit ourselves to two superpowers and you have to choose – flying or invisibility. I always choose flying because I hate flying on airplanes. But, Mareike’s breathing underwater superpower is quite tempting. I think I’m sticking to flying though.

  4. Yes! I’m falling out of love with running due to lack of goals and structure. So, a secret superpower? Having read too much fantasy lately I’m tempted to just say ‘magic’, or control thereof (and that would be best kept a secret, wouldn’t it), but how about…not needing so much sleep? Yes, I think ‘sleep optional’ is the superpower I’d have most use for right now.

  5. My superpower would have to be x-ray vision…that way I can see who is at my door without having to running through the house!

  6. If I could have any super power it would be telepathy, always wondering what goes on in other peoples heads!

  7. Course sounds awesome! My superpower would be to see into the future (then maybe I could win the lottery!!!)

  8. Can’t think of a specific power but I sure would like to be like Wonder Woman, stong and smart, with an invisible plane, golden lasso and cuffs.

  9. If you could have a secret superpower, what would it be? Definitely I would choose endless energy with on/off switch obviously! I tend to fade before I get everything I want accomplished completed.

  10. This has been an ongoing discussion with my friends as well- instant teleportation was the big winner. So you could just think about where/when you wanted to be somewhere and poof! There you go.

  11. My secret superpower would be to always know when I need to stop talking. Imagine the social and professional awkwardness that could be avoided!

  12. I always wanted to able to walk through walls so I could have a look round peoples houses. More for the layout rather than decorating tips.

  13. Oooh, so many tempting ideas. At the moment, I’d go with an ability to stop time. Then I could sleep for a week, get caught up on work and housework, and get my head sorted out. All without the usual obligations to other people!

  14. Did you ever see the trashy american 80s tv show ‘Manimal’? This guy had the power to turn into any animal in the world (although mostly a v. cheap hawk) and natch he used those powers to fight crime. That. Only I’d be a dragon and all would fear me. Plus I’d be supercool at Chinese New Year.

  15. Well…so my sister had a boyfriend who was once asked this in a job interview. As soon as my sister heard this, she said, “Fly! Fly! Fly!” As she told me the story, I said, “Oh man, flying would be so cool!” Her boyfriend replied, confidently, “I would want the superpower to predict the movements of the stock market.”

“Huh, really,” said the interviewer. “That’s a new one. Most people say they would want to fly.”

Ever since then I’ve wanted the superpower to predict the movements of the stock market.

  16. My superpower would be the willpower to refuse anything but healthy foods!! It’s a big struggle at the moment. Along with portion control!

  17. My super power would be the self-doubt smasher. If I could get rid of self doubt with a kapowwww I would be all over it!

  18. I had fun just reading what others want! My super power would have to say I like the idea of orbing – like on the tv show Charmed. Then I could orb to see my nephews on the other side of the US any time I wanted to or they wanted me.

  19. Definitely flying. But just magically flying around after bouncing up into the air – I don’t think I’d like actual wings!

  20. I’ve always dreamed of having the power of montage. Just choose a peppy song, and presto! Boring, time-consuming tasks can be completed in the time it takes Survivor to croon out their immortal paean to the success that comes after hard work and motivation. 🙂

  21. Superpower….??? Hmmmm… I always wanted to be iron man (or, more honestly, since the avengers with Robert Downey Junior, Mrs. Iron Man). Wait that’s not a superpower….
Ok, well then, I would like the ability to fly.

  22. I would love to be able to snap my fingers and appear anywhere else in the world. Right now I’d go 12,000km from home to visit my sister. Thanks Shauna!

  23. Inspired by the ‘Charmed’ comment: I would love to have the power to heal! I could help so many people. Also I would really like to see a ghost one time but defenitely not always so this power should come with an on/off switch.

  24. I would be able to live without ever sleeping

That way I could do everything I needed to do, and blow people’s minds!

  25. Up and Running is such an awesome concept – I’m so glad it is working out so well for you, as well as all ove the sassy runners you guys help!

As for super powers? I would love to be able to read minds – it would sure help out a lot in the office! 😉

  26. I’d love the superpower to sleep whenever I wanted. As much as I love your blog Shaunie I don’t fancy reading it at 1am..

  27. I’m glad you said SECRET superpower…flying. Or eating without gaining weight? Either would be lots of fun.

  28. i would like to be fearless! outer dragons? inner demons? bring them on!
plan b: i would like to win every single blog givaway with stuff i fancy!
    greetings from berlin,

  29. Super Mum!!! Super Mum has the ability to have all her chores done at incredible speed and still have time to not only play with her children, but to go for a run!

P.S. you might think that her incredible speed would extend to her running but she doesn’t want to cheat at running – just chores!

  30. I thought for sure I would be the only one saying “the ability to sleep” but clearly I am not alone with this struggle. I also wish I had an empathy gun (thanks Hitchhiker’s Guide) because boy do a lot of people seem to be missing that at times.

  31. Oooh, so many choices… But I always wanted to be able to twizzle my nose like Samantha on Bewitched & just be there. So, I guess my superpower would have to be teleportation.

  32. My super power would be the ability to time travel. I’d like the chance to do-over some of the more mortifying events of my past!

  33. The ability to heal physical and/or mental health issues with just one touch. So many young people I know have problems that are blighting their lives and it seems almost impossible to help them. Just imagine if a hug could solve them for good.

  34. If I had a super secret superpower I’d have the ability to understand/read/speak every language in the world. Kinda like the Babel Fish in Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy…but without the soggy ear hole!

  35. My super power would be to freeze time – so that I could have an extra nap, catch up on things or spend more time doing the more enjoyable things in life… 🙂 As a bonus it would also be nice to speed it up.. on a Tuesday afternoon… so that its Friday night already

  36. I’m probably too late for the Up and Running. But I’d totally love to control the weather. Like magically making it 55 degrees and sunny, the perfect weather to go running. And magically dark whenever I feel like going to sleep. And the sun wouldn’t rise til I felt like getting up.

  37. I would definitely want to teleport. It would make living so far away from my family and my boyfriend a lot easier!

  38. The ability to clone myself–would make life so much easier to have one me go to work, be an adult, etc. and one me able to have fun all the time!

  39. I’d wish for the superpower of persuasion. Specifically one that actually works to convince my daughter to make only healthy choices so she doesn’t follow in her mom’s, grandma’s, and great-grandma’s unhealthy footsteps.

  40. My superpower would be to create money whenever I need/want it. I could help not only myself but also many others with this.

  41. Hi Shauna,
Have been reading your blog for eons ! Totally fabulous work !
Always makes me laugh and feel inspired. Thankyou.

My superpower would be world peace….and… to give that bi@tch who sometimes appears on all our left shoulders a good bi@tch slap when those pesky, always negative, self doubting thoughts pop up !

    Thanks for the continuing inspiration.

    Blue Mountains,

  42. I’d like to be like the Wonder Twin who could take the shape of any other thing, then I’d take the shape of Sofia Vergara!

  43. My ideal super power would be invisibility. I’d love to get to snoop around in Buckingham Palace!
