  • unlimited support from Coach Julia Jones for all your running questions

I’m giving away five free places, with the winner choosing the course they’d like to do. All you have to do is leave a comment on this blog post and tell me, If money was no object, what would be your dream summer holiday?

  • Entries close 11PM GMT on Tuesday 5 June.
  • There will be five winners and they have their choice of 5K or 10K course
  • The winner can gift the prize to a friend, so you can enter if you choose not to run but want to surprise a friend.

  1. My ideal summer holiday would be to Hawaii with all of my family with me. It would be such an awesome summer vacation! I’d take it so that it was the Australian winter I was missing out on too.

  2. If money was no object, my dream summer holiday would be Alaskaboy, Kiddlywink, and I, spending a few weeks spent in Scotland, making sushi πŸ˜‰ , checking out veggie gardens, walking up and down mountainous terrain, spending time with people and jaunting off through bits of Europe that catch our fancies. And of course enjoying the food and drink.
Then a short hop across the pond to the US/Canada to visit family and friends for a few more weeks, then finally back home to Aus for a ferry ride across the Bass Strait for a tour around Tassie. (Among other places, Alaskaboy still hasn’t been there yet!)

    1. “Spending a few weeks spent in Scotland.” Sheesh! Two hours sleep = Me not done good at talk OR type.

  3. I would spend the summer in Europe watching and trying sports. Tour de France, British Open (men’s golf), French Open (women’s golf) and maybe Wimbledon. All the time training for my next events.

  4. My dream summer holiday would be an American Road-trip – preferably with someone else driving. πŸ™‚ This way I could enjoy it soon during the American summer so I wouldn’t have to wait to the end of year for our summer.

  5. Ideal holiday, would be back country downhill skiing with friends and my family in British Columbia (maybe Blue River) and evenings in a cosy lodge with Jaime Oliver as our personal chef and cooking teacher. If money no object heliskiing would be great.

  6. My ideal holiday…. Palm Cove, FNQ. Diving the Barrier Reef, wandering along the beach, avoiding the box jellyfish and cyclones if I pick the wrong time of year to visit! Seriously, it’s my favourite place in the world ( that I’ve seen so far!)

  7. Hi there. Would love to join the 5K course. It’s Kiwi summer weather here and I’m still sporting a good extra 10k on my body. Worse than that is that I can’t bounce back anymore after a late night or full- say:(

  8. Oops! Forgot dream summer holiday idea.
1 month rail holiday through states staying in a private suite onboard with boyfriend. 5K would be great jumping on and off where we like. Wish you comfortably warm and sunny weather in Scotland. Please ignore previous sleep deprived comments:)

  9. I would go to the Maldives or Bora Bora, those wee huts/ houses that sit on top of the sparkling blue water look amazing!!

  10. A great big North American road trip! And some driving lessons beforehand… *ahem*

  11. My dream holiday requires more time than money: walking the complete appalachian trail. Time needed: four to six months.

One day I’ll do it, I swear!

  12. I’m an aussie expat like you Shauna, so if I could take an extravagant summer holiday, I would head home and do all the wonderful aussie things I’ve never done – Uluru, Broome, Margaret River…
Thanks for the giveaway – keeping my fingers crossed!

  13. Hi, Shauna! It’s been almost eight years since my son has been back home to see our family and friends in Brisbane, so if money were no object, we’d both be on a plane back to Brisvegas!

Thanks for having the competition, Shauna! :o)

  14. Hi, Shauna!
I’d love to spend the summer wandering through Europe, enjoying lots of lovely pastries and wine and cheese. Or Australia. Or road-tripping across the USA. Anywhere, really!

  15. I would go to Italy, and then Perth, Australia to visit family that I met for the first time 20 years ago! Of course, I’d have to spend time in Sydney as well.

  16. If money were no object I would holiday on the Stockholm Archipelago together with my lovely husband H, and delinquent terrier, Boo. We would spend the days doing little more than walking, reading, eating, talking and watching the world drift by.

  17. If money were no object, I’d take my kids and husband on a magical, random mystery tour of the world – we’d bump around from Laos to the Atacama to Macedonia, and we’d see a whole bunch of places I’m pretty sure I’d never have the money or time to get back to again! They’d forever be those annoying kids who say “Yeah, I was there before”, but boy, what they’d learn along the way!

  18. If money were no object, I’d take two months to explore Australia. And I’d invite lots of my favourite people to come along for bits of the trip, including my awesome UAR buddies.

  19. My dream would be to spend the ENTIRE summer in a small cottage near the ocean, were you can hear the waves crashing all night long. It would have an awesome patio, with a BBQ and a hammock! Doesn’t matter what part of the world. :).

  20. I’d love to visit New York!

But I’m going to visit London in July, which will also be very nice:-)

  21. My dream trip would be to travel to brazil to meet the child we have sponsored for the last 5 years and her family.

  22. If money were no object, I’d go and spend a lovely few weeks tootling around Scotland and Wales with my darling husband, my dear friend Shauna, and her Dr. G! And yes, if I win, I’m going to give running a go. (I think I might just be ready.)

  23. If money were no object I would spend the summer back-packing (extravagantly) around Europe. I would take as many bags as I wanted and laugh off the extra baggage fees. I would pay bellhops to cart my luggage everywhere. I would stay in the fanciest hostels (perhaps even hotels) and not share a room with anyone. I would also drink lattes all day.

  24. I would definitely make a trip to Germany. I was born there and lived there until I was 11. I’m 36 now and haven’t been back in almost 20 years. πŸ™

  25. Oh my goodness, even with money as no object, how could I possibly pick? Can I do it ALL? I want to see Europe, and take a cruise, and sit in a cabin on the beach next to a bonfire all summer long.

  26. The perfect holiday for me would be a family trip to Scotland to visit the rest of my family and travel around so my children can compete in highland dancing competitions πŸ™‚

  27. As you know I am already registered so I am hoping that if I am lucky enough to win I will be gifting it!

I also think that since you’ve written “Winner will be announced on Wednesday 6 Jube. Woohoo!” – this is a sign I am totally going to win as Jube is what my family calls me. Please don’t correct it, it’s the best typo ever.

If money were no object I would spend the WHOLE (Northern) Summer pootling around Europe, I’d totally be coming to crash at yours for a weekend πŸ™‚

  28. If money was no object I would do a casual-no rush walking holiday through nepal to Everest base camp

  29. If money was no object I’d go to Iceland…. not really a “summer” type holiday, but one my family would love!

  30. I would definitely do some sort of round-the-world trip – too many places to see to narrow it to one. Spain, Germany, Holland, France, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan, Vietnam, Vanuatu, New York and of course the many places in my home country (Australia) that I’ve not yet seen (esp. the west coast), would all be included! πŸ™‚

  31. If money is no expense then I’d do a summer holiday traveling all over Italy. I hate trying to cram an entire city into one day and would appreciate having a full summer to explore. It’d also give me a chance to do an Italian cooking class to finally master pesto, take sailing lessons, and learn Italian instead of just going to museums!

  32. I have romantic fantasies about making (read: EATING) my way around Europe. Paris, Montpellier, Venice, Rome, Seville, Barcelona, Berlin, Amsterdam, Krakow, Athens… ahhh….

  33. In an ideal world, money would be no object and I’d have the body of my dreams, so I would pick an all-inclusive holiday to one of those resorts where you have your own villa out on the water. I’d take part in all the activities I wouldn’t normally dare try and I’d probably also book villas for my family to join!

  34. Oooh, I just love this question! I’ve been saving up for my dream summer trip for years now (and am a few years away from my goal). I want to travel Japan, with an unlimited rail and plane pass, and enjoy all the cultural, natural, educational and gourmet destinations and sights. If I can get Up&Running, I might even join a race while I’m there?

  35. Must attend New Orleans Jazz Festival at some point in my life…..might as well start with that in April and have it be the beginning of a summer of music festivals across North America.

  36. If money was not object, my dream summer holiday would be touring Britain. My family originally came from England and Ireland and I would LOVE to tour all the old homesteads, cemeteries and bike wherever I can. (I wouldn’t bike in London though!) But it would be SOO fun to see where my grandma was born and see what the area is like. I’ve used google maps street view but it just doesn’t do it πŸ™‚

  37. I’d LOVE to go to New Zealand for an Active Adventures tour – bike, hike, kayak around the two islands. I’ve gone so far as to get the info brochure but haven’t scraped up the money yet.

  38. Probably the South Pole. Would love to hop on an ice floe, trek to the pole and see some penguins along the way πŸ™‚

  39. My dream summer holiday would involve touring Europe, starting in Denmark so me and the similarly Lego obsessed child can get our fix. We’ll follow this up with Scandinavia and Iceland, then fly back to Germany, drive through Austria and Switzerland en route to Italy. And somehow sneak off to watch some of the Tour de France as well!

  40. I am signed up for the 10k already but realised today that a friend would love the gift of the 5k course… So my dream holiday would be not one place but another world tour visiting Up&Runners in their home countries and seeing all the places that they talk about running. I’m not sure that it should be a summer holiday though, maybe more of a perpetual spring? Better running weather!
I love that you are giving away spots on the courses Shauna as I know from experience how fabulous they are. I hope those that don’t win think about scraping together the course fee and doing it anyway – it is worth every penny!

  41. If money was no object, I’d go to my top country to visit. I’d visit Italy and stay for 2 weeks, as I’d visit Rome and take photos of Venice before it goes under. I’d laugh and eat and remember the passion I feel every time I’m in a new place and alone. The isolation mixed with excitement, the fearlessness and confidence that I have but have hidden to not lose friends. The shedding of my old self.

  42. I have been mesmerized by photos of a farm in New Zealand owned by the sister of a friend and I can’t figure out how to wheedle myself an invitation.

  43. Where to begin! Mexico for some ruins and amazing food, down to Central America (Costa Rica and Belize perhaps) for some tropical rainforest and cute animals, then pop over to Cuba at the end.

  44. I’d do the same international (mostly European) tour de la famille that my parents took me on when I was twelve (but which I’ll probably never be able to afford myself), PLUS the equivalent for my partner’s Eastern European ancestors…

  45. I would spend one week on my own on a beach in California with no children (2 boys at home ) and no cycling obsessed hubby in a house overlooking the beach. Rested and refreshed then they could join me for the rest of the summer for a road trip in a camper van up to the redwoods and stopping wherever we liked on the way .

  46. I would love to do a (very, VERY) grand city tour. In my dream holiday, money is no object, I have oodles of time, and someone else to pack for me, schlep my stuff around, and do all the tedious admin stuff. Sooooooo, I’ll be off to New York, Tokyo, Athens, Moscow, Sydney, San Francisco, Havana, Chicago, Beijing, Vienna, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, Venice, sigh…. And then maybe a few weeks in Tuscany before slinking home, weary but very happy.

  47. I would love to drink margaritas on the beach in mexico specially when its their summer and our winter!!!

  48. My dream summer holiday would be cycling around Southern France and exploring all the amazing cuisine it has to offer.

  49. The summers in Cape Breton are absolutely beautiful! I would love to spend it near the ocean in Ingonish, in a small cottage or even a campsite. There are beautiful beaches and hiking trails to enjoy πŸ™‚

  50. The ‘money no object’ dream would be me, RealMan, Boy, Girl & Baby with our best friends in the South of France, staying in the perfect baby friendly house, with a pool, that comes with a lovely babysitter for whenever we wanted to go out for dinner…and someone to do the washing…and someone to pack and unpack the suitcases…basically nothing like the holiday we have actually booked! …And if money really could buy everything, no one would moan about anything at all for the entire holiday.

  51. I would fly to Bali and explore all the surrounding islands- paradise!!!

  52. My dream summer holiday would be a whole summer camping on a sandy beach in Connemara, west of Ireland- without doubt the most beautiful place in the world. Activities: jumping into the sea before breakfast, climbing mountains for the spectacular views, playing irish music with anyone who’ll join in and sitting at night listening to the waves with a good book and an even better glass of wine. And if money was no object I’d be able to arrange for it to be continuously sunny too

  53. I’d love to go to a teeny tiny island called Socotra off the coast of Yemen.

  54. I’d love to do a US roadtrip – drinking iced tea on a porch in the South, driving on open roads in the desert and finishing in New England for autumn. I’d come home 100lbs heavier though!

  55. If money was no object, my dream summer holiday would be to go to Iceland. I’d swim in the Blue Lagoon – and any other thermal pools I could find. I’d ride horses, climb mountains, listen to stories about trolls, explore the glaciers and geysers, watch the Northern Lights, eat salmon and cloudberries, and maybe meet a nice man in a jumper.

  56. My husband once worked for this insanely rich guy who has a HUGE ship (with built-in ICE BREAKERS) that just is constantly roaming the globe. And he flies off on his private jet and meets it places. That would be pretty stonkin’!

  57. I would go to Europe with my husband. I haven’t been in ages, and we have never been off the North American continent together, so it would be wicked fun to do so.
