Intermission… giveaway time!

UPDATE: Apologies to those who tried to comment earlier when I had comments disabled for this post. Derr Shauna!

Thank you for the kind comments on the shark posts. It’s been good to let it all out!

With all the melanoma wafflings, I nearly forgot to do my Summer Up & Running giveaway and the courses start in just over a week. So, do you fancy training for 5K or 10K glory with your own running coach? And a devoted cheerleader? (that would be me)

Our 5K Beginners Course starts on Monday 9 June and the 10K Course starts on Thursday 12 June, each going for eight weeks.

What’s it like to run with us? Have a gander at this rockin’ new video, in which some of our lovely graduates spill the beans about their U&R experience…

I’m giving away five free places, with the winner choosing the course they’d like to do. All you have to do is leave a comment on this blog post and tell me, which course would you like to do and why would you like to run?

  • Entries close 11PM GMT on Wednesday 3 June.
  • There will be five winners and they have their choice of 5K or 10K courses.
  • The winner can gift the prize to a friend, so you can enter if you want to surprise a friend.
  • Winners will be randomly selected.
  • Winners can be from anywhere in the world. Previous winners are eligible to enter again. Remember the Courses are for women only.
  • Sorry for the awkward transition of subject matter. I’ll wrap up the Wally saga soon!

  1. I would like to win a spot in the 10k course for a relative from me. I think she is then more motivated to run regulary 🙂

  2. Would love to win the 5K course, I’m am just starting out so in pretty bad shape but am looking forward to making a change! Thanks for the opportunity and p.s so glad to hear your happy ending with the shark battle 🙂

  3. This past year was my 2 year runiversary and this would be an awesome present 🙂 I would like the 10k course, I have run several half marathons, but I am slow and am now trying to increase my speed which I’m sure coach Julia could help me with 🙂

  4. I’d love to win the 5k course – I’ve attempted running so many times but always end up giving up. After a tumultuous year of dealing with a bunch of stuff like separation, redundancy and family death/illness fitness has taken a bit of a backseat, but I’m about to start a new job after 7 months unemployed and I feel like it’s a new phase beginning – and time to set some goals and start achieving them! Running 5kms would be such an awesome thing to finally achieve!

  5. I’d love to win the 5k course as I’m a v slow chub…and I’d like to be a faster chub 🙂

  6. Shauna – Loving the Wally/shark bite posts!

I would do the 10K. I took 2.5 years off of running and recently worked through a C25K plan and am now starting a 10K plan so that I can get up to a 1/2 marathon by November. Having extra motivation/coaching would seriously help as the longer runs are not exciting me at the moment. 🙂

  7. I’d love to win a place in the 10K for my 20-year-old daughter. I know she’d love the course, but she’d especially love the online community. 🙂

  8. I want to win the 5K course because I think getting back into running would be very good for my mental health (which is currently not that great). I loved the course the first time I did it and I think I need the external motivation to get back into the swing of things.

  9. I would love to win the 10k running course. I had signed up for a half-marathon, and was training on my own (which wasn’t easy) and injured my hip, so had to discontinue, and didn’t get to do the run. I’d love to have the expert coaching so that in the next attempt I wouldn’t get injured, and would be able to not just nail the training, but start to love it, and be able to run the race. Encouragement and accountability are such tremendous keys to this type of thing, am sure it would be a huge help!

  10. I’d love to win the 5 k course. I took part in a 10 k course last year (or was it two years ago???) and couldn’t finish it because I had an injury. At the moment I’m more or less strating from scratch because of poor health and lots of stress, so I’d love to get the encouragement and structure-

The shark story really scares me, especially the fact that the doctors kept telling you that Wally was harmless.

  11. I’d love to win the 5k. I’m just starting to exercise and I could do with a good motivational kick up the arse 🙂

  12. I would love to win the 5k program because I have finally recovered from a 10 month bout of plantar faciitis and I am ready to return to an active life.

  13. Hi there.

I’d like to do the 10K course.

I did the 5K with U&R-thanks Shauna for the opportunity!-and through it I gained a lot of confidence and really enjoyed the support and camaraderie.

I tried to get a couple of local friends into running but unfortunately it’s not their bag.

I had a big life change recently and running helps keep me happy.

  14. Would love to do the 5k!!! I’ve been struggling with motivation on my weight loss journey the past few months and am looking for a good challenge! With lots of hand holding and accountability!

    Fingers crossed!
    Katie from California 🙂

  15. I would like to win the 5k course because I have tried so many times to start running and I’ve always failed.

  16. I’d love a place on the 5KM course…
I’ve never been a runner ever…. even in my fittest of fit days….
    perhaps that’s my problem…

  17. I’d love to win the 5k course because I really like running but am not in really good shape.

  18. I would love to win a place on the 5km course and want to start running again because of the boost I know it will give to both my physical and mental health.

  19. Hi! I would love to win the 5K course. I’ve added running to my exercise regime to stave off boredom at the gym. To help with my weight loss goals, I’ve even signed up for a couple 5k races, but I’m really slow and cannot seem to build the stamina I need. I’m still learning to love running, I don’t hate it, but it is definitely a test to my courage, my will power, my spirit because it makes me push my body to the limits. I like how difficult it is and how I feel after completing a difficult run. That runner’s high and the idea that one day I could be a svelte, fitness diva keeps me going.

  20. I’d love to win the 10k – even though I have run half marathons before, any run over 8 or so km always seems a bit scary!

Thank you for the Wally post by the way. I was the motivation I needed to make an dermatologist appointment!

  21. Your Wally posts are both scary and hilarious. Kinda like the old Evil Dead movies :).

I’d love to win a 5k course, either for myself or for a new friend of mine who’s going through rehab for a thigh injury (have to ask her whether she can run in time). I used to run, but job and real life time constraints have taken me away from it and quite honestly, I’d both love the opportunity to do so again but haven’t got the motivation to do it myself. I’m sure you guys would light a fire under me!

  22. I’d love to win the 5k programme because a) I love you S and I’m your biggest cheerleader and would love for you to be my cheerleader (total girl crush) Also, I’m doing the Colour Run in Glasgow in August and would love to kick it’s bum bum! Yeah!

  23. I would love to win a place on the 10km course because i’m lacking the confidence and motivation to do this on my own, and i am in desperate need to get up and out of the house and be more active 🙂

  24. I’d love to do the 5k course. I am running the race for life in honour of my son. He died from cancer 5 years ago. I have been fundraising for a few years now but never taken part in a running race. x

  25. I’d love to do the 5k course this summer. I did it this spring and while I finished it due to school pressures, illness and family upheavals I didn’t do as well as I’d hoped. I’d like to come back and do it again with no distractions! Plus I’d like another race tee shirt!

  26. I would love to win the 5k course place because I think this year I could actually do it – I’ve always wanted to run but am so fat and unfit and can’t find time around the kids and don’t know how to start, excuses excuses … I hope I win and take away more than one of those excuses!

  27. An unashamed entry to try and blag a 10k spot – done it before – would luuuuuuuuuurve to do it again!

Rather surprised we don’t have to come up with something original with our comment – so I’ll wade in with one anyway – top thing I couldn’t do without in my handbag is my ………. emergency crossword. You never know when you’ll have an idle 5mins when you would prefer to look clever and busy and not at a loose end and a bit vacant.

  28. I was inspired by Diet Girl to lose 98 pounds 5 years ago. I’ve kept all but 10 pounds off . 2 months ago I finished up chemo for Non Hodgkin’s lymphoma. I’ve been walking a lot and am ready to try to get back to running.

  29. Hi Shauna!

I would love a chance to win the 5k course. I’ve tried to get into running in the past and gave up. The extra motivation and cheerleading are so needed!

  30. I~d love a spot on the 5k course. I have tried to get started on my own but never get anywhere.

  31. hi shauna! time to try winning a spot again! id loooove to be part of the gang and hang out and of course hobble about as best as i can with you guys!

  32. Would love to win a 5k. I’ve been overweight almost my entire adult life, just recently managing to lose enough to move from obese to simply overweight. I’m going to be a healthy weight before I’m 40 (1 year to go) and I’m going to have a kickass holiday to celebrate it! I want to run like we all did when we were kids, without gasping for breath or puking. This is going to be my year!

  33. I would love the 10k. I need to be more consistent with running because I know how much it improves my sanity and body confidence.
